Jasmine Corbett
Illustrator, writer, community & public arts
I'm a writer, illustrator and community artist. My two creative loves are writing and illustrating; I also engage directly with community offering community members the opportunity to experience a new approach to the creative process through an immersive experience.
I also work as an educator in the VE sector (design).
Initially trained in textile design, I am primarily an illustrator and community arts facilitator working to interact and engage with individuals in the creative process, and encourage different perspectives around the intersectionality of art, our environment and sustainability.
I explore the space between the experience of art and the tangible benefits of the artistic process within a creative practice, and my work is underpinned by the fundamental belief that with the creation of art brings agency, and this is a powerful tool for social change.
Utilising my experience working with people with disabilities, refugees, children, and people in the criminal justice system, I design and deliver inclusive arts workshops in Melbourne and the greater Melbourne area in local libraries, community centres, schools and in private homes.
Workshops include block printing with vegetables; making a lap loom and weaving with reclaimed yarns; the art of macrame; illustrative collage; book making; block printing with found objects; and Shibori.
My creative practice is based on a sustainable approach to process and I am passionate about waste-reduction and creating a more sustainable approach to our everyday lives. I enjoy the challenge of rethinking a product's end-use and experiment with creating work from designated "waste" products.
In illustration, I work primarily with water colour, ink and gouache. I am available for commissions- you can view my image gallery on this site for some examples of my artistic style.
I'm currently working on a historical fiction novel for children and am working on several picture books for younger readers.
