Born and based in Melbourne, Rebeccah Power, graduated from the VCA with a Fine Arts Degree in 2000, she then went on to complete a Bachelor of Art Education at Melbourne University. Since then, Power has built a career on making and exhibiting artwork both nationally and internationally. Her artistic practice is the product of an intense research process, searching interesting and often overlooked women throughout history. Spanning a variety of disciplines, including water colour painting, drawing, photography, digital imaging, projections and installation. Power combines intellectual qualities with a visceral appeal aimed at the senses. Her work is direct, dramatic and theatrical.
Rebeccah Power has received a number of accolades. She has been shortlisted for a number of major prizes including the ‘2012 Metro Gallery painting prize’ and the ‘2010 Lethbridge 10,000 award’. In 2010, She was a recipient of the ‘Copyright Agency Limited: Creative Industries Development Fund’ which funded a three month residency in Berlin. Her work can be found in the collections of the City of Yarra, Mentone Girls Grammar School and Melbourne Grammar School and in private collections in Britain, Europe and Australia.
Rebeccah Power comes with over 10 years teaching experience and she is qualified to run workshops in the following areas;
• Painting: water colour and oil painting.
• Drawing: using a variety of creative approaches and mediums and still- life and life drawing.
• Lino printing.
• Black and white photography: using an SLR camera, processing film and printing photographs in the dark room.
• Digital imaging: using the programs Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.
She is a competent and passionate teacher with a love of Art History and Theory who desires to pass on her passion for art to others. Her approach to teaching is adaptable to a variety of situations and she has the ability to create workshops that cater for a selection of interests, ages and skill levels.
