Irianna Kanellopoulou
Ceramic Artist
My work is strongly character-driven and deliberately shifts relationships between human and animal. The symbolism is multi-layered and invites the viewer to embed and integrate personal experiences and memories within the work and actively participate within the piece.
Focusing on the micro, the work draws our attention to the small details which are often overlooked. This microcosmos highlights the transformation and personification of such images as a means of making sense of our surroundings and environment.

I am interested in merging modern processes with traditional 18th century European ceramic techniques to create a fusion of images and objects within a contemporary context.

Since graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Ceramic Design from Monash University in 1993, I have exhibited nationally and internationally including Talente in Munich, Germany, SOFA in Chicago USA and Gallery Twentyfive in New Delhi, India. I was invited as Guest Artist in residence at the Clay Studio in Philadelphia USA, the University of South Australia and have conducted workshops and lectures at Chisolm Institute and Slow Clay Melbourne.
