LISA FOLEY
Mural artist, art facilitator, creative mentor/counsellor (qualified)
For the past 15 years I have been working as a public artist, creating murals and art installations in Banyule and other municipalities, with more than 40 public artworks and installations in Banyule itself. Alongside this, I have worked as a community arts facilitator, tutor and creative mentor/counsellor, working with people from all walks of life. I began art classes as an 8-year-old in Macleod, taught by an ‘old school’ local artist called Reg Green. He taught mostly in the Impressionistic style, which instilled in me a great love of the methods and philosophy of Impressionism and Post-Impressionism, and of course the world-famous Heidelberg School of Impressionist artists

My work is still influenced by an intermingling of the Impressionistic and Post-Impressionistic styles of depicting the changing qualities of light and colour in the moment, the atmosphere this creates, and the impact on the viewer. Post-impressionism with its focus on bolder colour, emotional expression and symbolic depiction is probably my strongest influence. I delve into various mediums to explore the ‘play of light and colour’, using activating materials like resin, glass, mica powders, gems and metallics, alongside paint and ink.
