Anne Bennett
Visual artist, curator and educator
Having been born in Ivanhoe and raised in Heidelberg, Anne returned to live and work in the Banyule area in 2007. Anne's visual art practice encompasses drawing, printmedia, works on paper, painting, artists books, installation, curatorial projects, museum practice and writing. For many years Anne has explored Garden of Eden themes in order to probe Western ideas of duality. More recently Anne has focused on the Nature/ Culture divide and issues of water and revegetation along the Yarra River.

Anne has held 15 individual exhibitions since 1986 including shows at Tolarno Galleries, Pinacotheca, numerous institutional galleries around Australia. Most recently Anne has staged solo shows at the Post Office Gallery at Federation University, Ballarat and at The Front, Docklands. She has also participated in excess of 70 group exhibitions, including curated shows at National Gallery of Victoria, regional galleries around Australia and also galleries in Korea, China, Lithuania and UK.

Anne has also curated and project managed numerous group touring exhibitions to community, university and regional galleries throughout Victoria. Most notably in 2018 Anne curated the exhibition States of Being: The elemental importance of water, Hatch Contemporary Arts Space, Ivanhoe. Anne has also taught widely, including at NMIT and Melbourne Polytechnic.
